Officers from the Tucson Police Department will arrest well over a thousand people for DUI this year. A DUI is kind of a weird investigation. On one hand, it could really happen to anyone who consumes alcohol or other drugs (legal and illegal). You can be arrested for DUI after consuming Nyquil. It is sometimes known as a "Good guy crime." Personally, I know some truly great people who made the mistake of getting behind the wheel after having too much to drink.
On the other hand, some of the most horrific crashes I have ever seen has been the result of a DUI driver. A DUI arrest has the potential to stop a homicide before it happens. Like most people, I would much rather see someone arrested for a misdemeanor DUI than see them booked into jail for second degree murder after they killed someone. I've had to do both and it's not a tough decision.
As you may have heard, the son of Tucson Mayor, Regina Romero, was recently arrested for DUI. After looking at the report, it doesn't look like he drank alcohol. Apparently, he's more of a weed guy- to each their own. He made a mistake and he was arrested. If he wasn't the son of Mayor Romero, NOBODY would care about this incident nor should they. Again, let's keep this in perspective. If anyone wants to claim they didn't make stupid mistakes when they were 19 years old, I would ask that you stand off to the side with the rest of the liars!
When I heard about this incident, I decided to look into it. I completed a public record request through the Tucson Police Department. That request was fulfilled a couple of days ago.
I have posted the police report as it was released to me. I will make another request for the DUI worksheet and the lab report and I will post that for my dear readers as soon as I get it.
I would also like to take a second to thank the hard working men and women of the Tucson Police Department for doing their best to keep Tucson safe despite working against a jail that won't hold on to prisoners and prosecutors who all too often look for reasons NOT to prosecute. Thank you guys/gals, we appreciate you!
As always, I thank you for stopping by.
