This investigation is one that surprised us. It is actually a part of the “Sex In a Patrol Car A-OK series which includes The Rat Squad Cover Up, The Arizona POST Cover Up, and The Mayor & Council Cover Up.” (OPS #18-0476). As we stated earlier, that OPS investigation contains over 1,000 pages, 1024 to be exact. There are also several recordings of interviews.
As we reviewed that investigation, page by page, we discovered something that did not make sense. The investigation titled “Sex In a Patrol Car Is A-OK” was based on actions that occurred from April 2018 through August 2018. THIS investigation, “The Bonus Track,” was based on actions that occurred on or around December 2017. So how are they related? It’s tough to say. While we are not 100% on this one, we believe the “victim” in “The Bonus Track” is the “participant” in “Sex In a Patrol Car Is A-OK.” Remember, the victim in this case identified herself as "future TPD employee." The part she left out was the fact that she was a "current TPD commo employee." As a TPD dispatcher, she was an employee of the Tucson Police Department and therefore subject to TPD's General Orders. She was turned into a victim with some command staff hocus pocus reference a case that happened months before, and was COMPLETELY unrelated to, the events of Sex In a Patrol Car Is A-OK.
First things first, why would we name this investigation “The Bonus Track?” We came up with this name when we discovered this case report that appeared to have been buried in be the wrong investigation, like the bonus track on a CD (channel your inner 90s kid). Again, “Sex In a Patrol Car Is A-OK” is 1024 pages. Who the heck would go through over 1,000 pages of a boring OPS investigation? We would. You see, on page 790, we saw a case report that was placed directly after another case report that was part of “Sex In a Patrol Car Is A-OK.” That report was created in 2018. The second report was created in 2017. The case officer of this report was a lieutenant. The narrative of this report reads “This case involves potential criminal activity within the city limits of Tucson.”
It is about the creation of a fake Face Book page that was derogatory to the “victim.” Like much of the information we get from the Tucson Police Department, this report was heavily redacted. While we know the fake Face Book page was created by the wife of a Tucson Police Officer, we don’t know who is involved as ALL of the names are redacted. We know this because two detectives from the Tucson PD homicide unit and another detective from ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) were pulled from their regular duties to find out who created a fake Face Book page. The homicide guys served a search warrant and the ICAC guy served a subpoena to identify the perp’s address. Fortunately, the Tucson Police Department has an abundance of police personnel to handle these types of special projects (sarcasm intended).
We requested an un-redacted copy of the case report and supplements to this caper. We also requested the entire investigation for this incident from the Office of “Professional” Standards. When we get those record requests we will post them right away and we can all see what they are trying to hide. Stay tuned, much more is on the way.
As always, we appreciate your time, thanks for stopping by.
